Behind-the-scenes updates and author events leading up to launch
On September 11, 2001, Nia Gilliam was in the flight deck at Newark Airport, watching the Twin Towers burn. Cleared for Takeoff shares what that day—and the days that followed—looked like through a pilot’s eyes, and the resilience it took to keep moving forward.
Nia Gilliam is an Airline Transport Pilot with over 30 years in aviation and the debut author of Cleared for Takeoff — a firsthand account of her 9/11 experience and perseverance in the face of crisis.
She co-founded Sisters of the Skies, advancing diversity in aviation through its three-part mission of scholarship, mentorship, and outreach, opening doors for the next generation of Black women pilots.
As a breast cancer survivor, Nia uses her voice to advocate for awareness emphasizing early detection, routine screenings, and resilience beyond the flight deck.
